Finally Some Progress!

I have been trying to get the flowers on my bhut jolokias to take. I finally have found some peppers growing!

The tomatoes are even coming along. They were much easier to pollinate than the peppers. This is the first flower that opened and also the first fruit that is showing.

Now I’ll keep making sure that I stay up on pollinating the flowers and in about a month (hopefully not more) I will have some HOT peppers and sweet tomatoes!

Grow Room Temperature and Humidity

I have a temperature and humidity meter that I have installed in my grow room. It was actually very cheap to buy. It syncs up to my home wireless network and updates the temperature and humidity readings to an online database. I am trying to get my grow room humidity up. This is what things have looked like for the past 3 days.

This is what the 4 tomatoes look like now.

Tomatoes Day 26

I am growing 2 roma tomatoes and 2 chocolate tomatoes indoors in my hydroponic system. I recently moved them from my small reservoir to my larger reservoir (their permanent home) as they are beginning to get much larger. I also strung some nylon chord from the top of the grow room to wrap the tomatoes around as they grow.

The roots are growing and are looking very healthy.

Bhut Jolokia Day 34

The 2 bhut jolokias are doing very well (except for the incident with my foot). The leaves are a dark, healthy green and there are dozens of buds elongating preparing to grow and open. Hopefully soon I will have some crazy hot peppers to watch grow.

Since the last update I have moved my 2 bhut jolokia plants to my smaller reservoir to make room for 4 tomatoes in my larger reservoir. They made the transition without any problems.

Bhut Jolokia meets my foot :(

This week I was working on stringing up some supports for my tomatoes. I slipped and my foot came down on one of the Bhut Jolokia plants. My heart sunk. I have already had too many disasters with these peppers (read past posts).

I surveyed the damage and my foot had landed right at the top of where a node split into two shoots. Unfortunately, it the plant split right down the middle. To try to save the plan I cut off the side that was smaller so the plant could focus on healing and only keeping one side.

The picture above is the scene 24 hours later. The wound is drying and the part of the plant that is left doesn’t even seem phased. I expected to wake the next morning and it would be shriveled up.

Bhut Jolokia Day 20

Here is a look at the Bhut Jolokia peppers that are 20 days from transplant. They were saved off of a dying plant and were rooted. This is 20 days after putting them in the reservoir.
